Works in the exhibition
Stephen Andrews examines the line between personal experience and mass-culture. He re-sensitizes us to the sort of web posts, news feeds, and print media that abound both in his work and in our lives, finding new beauty in long-vanished moments. Rendered by hand, in vaporous glazes of watercolour and oil, his low-res subjects become majestic abysses, twinkling with digital unrest and reflecting back at us a portrait of our age.
This is Stephen Andrews’s first solo exhibition at Galerie Division. Further examples of his work can be found in various public and private collections around the world, including that of The Art Gallery of Ontario, Harvard Business School’s Schwartz Collection, MOCCA, and The National Gallery of Canada.
Andrews lives and works in Toronto, Canada.
