Paul Butler

Works in the exhibition

Well known for his Collage Party performances, Paul Butler’s recent work takes as its starting point the art magazines in which museums, galleries and artists share information.  By carefully cutting away the art and copy from these publications, Butler draws attention to the gallery spaces themselves, exposing the apparatus behind art world culture while achieving minimalist geometric images of striking subtlety.

Butler has exhibited at the Musée d’art contemporain, Montreal; the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg; and La Maison Rouge, Paris.

His work will appear in the exhibition Collages: Geste et Fragments at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal from February 6th through April 20th, 2014.

Paul Butler lives and works in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
